Give Your Kid a Million recently caught up with GYKAM agency partner Kash Fadaie of Fadaie Insurance Agency of Temecula, CA.

Tell us about yourself.

I have a great story, actually. I am a refugee from Iran. I started with nothing. I had $40 and a dream. I wanted to be a successful business man. That’s what I knew I would do. I got hired in sales at Allstate and I loved it. I crushed it. I did really well.

In 2006, you opened your own agency. What was that like?

I was so undercapitalized. I literally slept in my office when I started out. It was blood, sweat and tears. I had to do well because there was no other option. So I bought leads and I worked until 2 or 3 a.m. each night. It was survival mode. I was thirty years old and succeeding was the only option. I had to do it. I had to produce. And I did it.  

Isn’t that the American Dream?
Yes, it’s absolutely the American dream. Now I have a family and nine employees. I’m opening up a mortgage company and a real estate company, too. I love all of it. It is my passion.

What have you learned about being in business for yourself?
When you learn to delegate, and that isn’t easy to do, heaven really does break loose for you. Hire the best people and pay them well. Learn to delegate. Trust your team. There is nothing more rewarding than participating in the dreams of your employees.

Tell us about your team.

Every single person in the agency was hand-selected by me. We have 80 years of combined experience and our customers trust that. We’re confident and helpful, but we’re not pushy. It’s a consultative approach.

What do you love about what you do?

I love people. I am a people person. I love helping people make informed decisions, and I love to wow them. I even love the difficult customers. It’s just something I have. I can neutralize them.

What do you want your customers to know?

My carriers are my partners. They are hand-selected by me, and the companies that I work with have withstood the test of time. When I first started out, I was in survival mode and I worked with any carrier. I learned that not all carriers are equal. Some are slow with claims and customer service. That affected my customers and it affected my business. It’s not ok. Over the years, I ousted those companies and retained the ones that performed well. My carriers are all A-rated and they will come through for you.   

What do you want other agents to know?

Look, I don’t consider other agents a threat. There’s so much business out there. I will always share what I’ve learned with others and try to help people because I truly believe in this industry. We are guides. We are so needed. Another business I want to launch is a consulting and training company. I want to help other agents take their businesses to the next level. There’s a demand for someone who is excited about the industry and knows relationship-based selling. It will help a lot of people. You have to do what you love and love what you do.


Can you imagine yourself doing anything else?
I can’t. If you asked me whether I’d rather be vacationing on an island in Greece, I’d say no. I wouldn’t know what to do. I need to complete my mission. This is my destiny.  But I definitely will travel the world when the time comes.
