1. Make Sure Your Car Gets Inspected

In order to ensure the safety of you and your children during a road trip, it's important you take your car for a tune-up. Take it for a tune-up. Make sure they check the tires, brakes, fluids, AC, and the battery.

It will give you peace of mind to know your car is in perfect shape before you hit the road with your children.

On top of making sure your car is in top shape, make sure you also bring with you jumper cables, spare tire, first aid kit, a flashlight, an extra blanket, some batteries and a roll of paper towels.

2. Protect Them Against the Sun

Although your children will be inside the car, you still need to protect them against the sun, especially if you will travel during the day.

Make sure you put sunscreen on your children, get them some comfortable hats, and put sunglasses on them. It might also be a good idea to get sunshade to keep them comfortable against the sun.

3. Childproof Your Car

Before you hit the open road, make sure the back seat is ready for your children. Check to make sure you activate the child locks on doors and windows.

The last thing you want is to be focused on the road and then have your child try to open the door or the window.

You should also look around for any other miscellaneous things such as chocking hazards, loose change, any old food between the seats, and any objects that can fly in the even you have to brake in an emergency.

4. Take Breaks During the Trip

If you have small children, they might not want to be buckled in the entire time. It's important you take several breaks during the trip, especially if you're traveling long distances.

Make sure you stop every couple of hours so your family can stretch their legs, go to the bathroom, and eat a little snack.

5. Use the Correct Child Seat

Children grow so fast, so it's important you choose the right car seat for your child before the trip. If you have been thinking about changing the car seat, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
